中新網4日援引外媒報導，這突然出現的一幕把當地民眾嚇了一大跳，甚至還一度引發恐慌。有民眾以為，這樣的恐怖場景是「世界末日」的「先兆」。也有人表示，這些甲蟲出現之前，當地曾發生地震，不知道這兩件事之間是否有聯繫。

還有些人認為，甲蟲可能是到了交配季節，所以才爬出地底集體現身沙灘。科學家稱，甲蟲會在地底生活約2年，通常在1月爬出地面進行繁殖。而在完成繁殖後，它們的生命就會走到終點。

日前，阿根廷首都布宜諾斯艾利斯附近一處海灘上演了一場恐怖大片。數以百萬計的甲蟲突然出現在沙灘上，浩浩蕩蕩綿延數公里，把海岸線染成了一片黑色。
